Boomers meet the Wii ones...

The generation gap was bridged in June 2008's writing workshop. Two 'older' Irish ladies were joined by a middle-aged healer from Malaga and three sixteen-year-old boys. What! I hear you gasp. How could the decades that divide these disparate ages be crossed without incurring a minor injury at worst or a brooding silence at best?

I despaired. But I needn't have bothered. Under the assured guidance of poet Katie Donovan, the group gelled through words and wisdom. Two worlds collided; wii and walking, sci-fi and Shelly, homework and healthcare. In class these differences matter little. Katie utilised the gap in age and experience to explore different genres of fiction writing. An eclectic selection of writing emerged from this group: memoir, fantasy, creative non-fiction and horror. The boys vowed to wow their upcoming English teacher with their new-found technique. While the ladies and the man from Malaga pledged to start / get on with / finish their current writing projects encouraged by a new-found youthful vigour. Ah, I aim to please everyone who joins IN THE WRITE LIGHT. Usually I succeed.
